Interview with Sarah Henderson, owner of Threaded Needle Custom Embroidery located in Portland, Oregon.
1. What inspired you to start Threaded Needle Custom Embroidery?
I have always been passionate about personalization and making things unique. When I was younger, I used to embroider designs on my clothes, and people would always ask me where I got them from. I realized there was a market for unique, personalized clothing, and that's how Threaded Needle was born.
2. What were some of the challenges you faced in starting your own business?
Initially, it was hard to find the right suppliers and get the word out about my business. It took a while to build up a customer base and establish a reputation for quality work and reliable customer service.
3. How did you overcome those challenges?
I spent a lot of time networking and building relationships with other small business owners in the area. I also made sure to invest in high-quality supplies and equipment so that we could produce top-notch work that our customers would love.
4. When did you realize that your business was becoming a success?
We initially started selling our products at local fairs and markets, and we always received positive feedback from customers. When we opened our online store on Shopify, our sales really took off, and we realized we had tapped into a much larger customer base than we ever thought possible.
5. Can you tell us about the role that Shopify has played in your business's success?
Shopify has been a game-changer for our business. It's allowed us to reach customers all over the country, and its powerful analytics and reporting tools have helped us optimize our operations and make better-informed business decisions.
6. What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs looking to start their own business?
My biggest piece of advice would be to focus on building relationships with your customers and other small business owners in your community. Word of mouth is incredibly important in the early stages of a business, and if you can establish yourself as someone who provides great value and service, people will take notice.
7. What's next for Threaded Needle Custom Embroidery?
Right now, we're exploring new product lines and looking for ways to expand our reach even further. We're also planning to open a physical storefront in the near future to better serve our local customers and engage more deeply with the community.
