Interviewer: Can you start by telling us your name and a bit about your photography studio?

Shop Stories interview with the owner of a Photography Studio

Luke Thompson: Hi, my name is Luke Thompson and I am the proud owner of Thompson Photography Studio located in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. We offer a wide range of photography services from family portraits to event photography to commercial work.

Interviewer: How did you get into photography and eventually open your own studio?

Luke Thompson: I've always had a passion for photography, and studied fine arts in college. After graduation, I worked for several photography studios to hone my craft and learn the business. Eventually, I decided to branch out on my own and opened my own studio in 2012.

Interviewer: What were some of the biggest challenges you faced when starting out?

Luke Thompson: One of the biggest challenges was finding clients and establishing a reputation for quality photography. It was also difficult to manage all aspects of the business while still devoting enough time to photography itself. Additionally, balancing creative fulfillment with financial success was a constant challenge.

Interviewer: Can you tell us about a specific moment or event that helped propel your business forward?

Luke Thompson: Absolutely. In 2016, we began using Shopify to manage our online store and accepted payments through their platform. This was a game-changer for us, as it allowed us to streamline our payment process and offer a wider range of photography services. We were also able to reach new customers who previously may not have had access to our services.

Interviewer: That's great to hear. How else has Shopify helped your business?

Luke Thompson: Shopify has allowed us to expand our business in multiple ways. We can now offer digital downloads of our photographs, and customers can easily order prints and have them shipped directly to their home. The platform's built-in SEO features have also helped us rank higher in online search results, bringing even more traffic to our website.

Interviewer: What advice would you give to someone looking to start their own photography business?

Luke Thompson: My biggest advice would be to focus on your craft and constantly strive to improve your skills. Don't be afraid to take chances and try new things. Also, don't underestimate the power of a strong online presence and the importance of finding ways to make your business easily accessible to customers. That's where platforms like Shopify come in handy.

Interviewer: Thank you so much for sharing your story and insights with us, Luke. It's been a pleasure speaking with you.

Luke Thompson: Thank you for having me. It's been great to chat with you.
