Shop Stories interview with the owner of a 3D Printing Shop

Interview with Jack Thompson, the Male Owner of "3D Printing Solutions," a 3D Printing Shop situated in Austin, Texas.

Q: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started with 3D Printing Solutions?

A: Well, I’ve always been fascinated by modern technology. After working as a software engineer for a couple of years and creating a few 3D models here and there, my passion for the art of 3D Printing started to grow. Soon after, I realized that I could start my own business creating beautiful 3D printed designs and thus, "3D Printing Solutions" was born.

Q: What were some challenges you faced during the early days of your business?

A: Starting any business is tough, especially when you don’t have enough people believing in you. I remember those days when I had only a few customers, and the rent for the store was almost due. At that time, I really thought that I had made a mistake by starting a business I knew little about. However, I never gave up, and with each passing day, I got more clients, and things started to look up. I would say that the most significant challenge that I faced was finding a way to market my business effectively.

Q: How did you overcome the marketing challenge?

A: Well, one of the critical things that we did was to expand our online presence. We started by creating a Shopify store, which we used to promote and sell our 3D printed designs and printing services. This helped us to reach a broader audience and gave us the exposure we needed. In addition to this, we also used social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook to advertise our business.

Q: Can you tell us more about your experience with Shopify?

A: Sure, so Shopify was definitely a game-changer for us. It was effortless to use, and it allowed us to showcase our products in a way that was easy for customers to understand. With its in-built analytics, we were able to track traffic and gain valuable insights into our online store's performance. Finally, the fact that Shopify had top-notch security features gave our customers the confidence that they needed to purchase our products.

Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own 3D printing business?

A: My advice would be to start small and focus on creating quality 3D prints. Also, remember that marketing is key. Create a Shopify store, build an online presence, and use social media to get the word out about your business. Finally, don’t be afraid to invest in yourself by attending workshops and conferences on 3D printing to stay up to date on the latest trends and technology.

Q: How do you see 3D printing evolving in the next five years?

A: I see 3D printing becoming more accessible to a broader audience. With improvements in 3D printing technology, it is becoming less expensive and easier to use. This will open up new opportunities for businesses to create and sell all sorts of customized products. I also see 3D printing being used more widely in medicine, construction, and aerospace industries.

Q: What’s next for "3D Printing Solutions"?

A: We are constantly expanding our product offerings and services. Our workshops have been well-received, and we intend to launch more classes in the future. We are also exploring opportunities to franchise our business and expanding into new territories. Ultimately, our goal is to become the go-to destination for all things 3D printing.
