Interviewer: Can you tell us a little bit about how you first got interested in creating an Escape Room business?

Shop Stories interview with the owner of a Escape Room

Caroline: Sure! It actually started when I went to my first Escape Room experience with some friends. It was such a blast and I couldn't stop thinking about how I could create something like it on my own. I started researching and eventually decided to take the plunge into opening my own business.

Interviewer: What were some of the biggest challenges you faced in starting and running your own business?

Caroline: There were a lot of challenges, especially in the beginning. One of the biggest ones was figuring out how to market myself and get the word out to potential customers. I also had to learn a lot about the business side of things, like managing finances and hiring employees.

Interviewer: What do you think has been the key to your unexpected success?

Caroline: I think one of the biggest factors was partnering with Shopify to create an online presence for my business. It really helped me to reach a larger audience and make it easier for people to book their Escape Room experience. Additionally, I think the key to our success has been creating unique and challenging puzzles that keep people coming back.

Interviewer: Can you tell us about a particularly memorable customer experience?

Caroline: One that stands out was a group of teenagers who came in for a birthday party. They were hesitant at first, but as soon as they started the game, they really got into it. It was so rewarding to see them work together and come up with creative solutions to the puzzles. They ended up beating the game with only seconds to spare and the look of excitement and accomplishment on their faces was priceless.

Interviewer: Looking back at your journey so far, is there anything you would do differently?

Caroline: I definitely think I underestimated how important building an online presence was, so I would have invested more in that earlier on. Additionally, I think I could have benefited from seeking out more mentorship and advice from other successful business owners.

Interviewer: Do you have any exciting plans for the future of your business?

Caroline: Yes! We're currently working on creating a new and even more challenging game for our customers to try. We're also hoping to expand to other locations in the future.

Interviewer: Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us today, Caroline. It's been great learning more about your business and experiences.

Caroline: Thank you for having me!
