Interview with Lily Moreno, Owner of "Silent Beats" Silent Disco in Austin, Texas
1. Can you tell us about your background and how you came up with the idea of Silent Beats?
I have always been passionate about music and dancing. But, when I moved to Austin, I realized that not everyone appreciates loud music in the middle of the night. That’s when I stumbled upon the concept of 'silent disco' and it blew my mind. I immediately knew I had to bring this to Austin.
2. Austin is known for its competitive nightlife. Did you face any challenges when you first started your business?
Oh, definitely. Many people were skeptical about the idea of dancing with wireless headphones. They thought it would disrupt the traditional nightclub experience. But, I was determined to make it work. It was tough convincing the local community, but I continued to host events and slowly people began to understand the magic of silent disco.
3. How did you go about promoting your business and getting the word out there?
Initially, it was all through word of mouth, but then we started using social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook to promote our events. But, our biggest breakthrough came when we created our online store on Shopify. It allowed us to reach a greater audience and enabled people to buy their tickets online and reserve their headphones beforehand.
4. Can you tell us more about how you started using Shopify?
I had heard about Shopify through a friend who owned a successful e-commerce business. With time, we realized that Shopify wasn't just for helping businesses sell products online, but was also a great platform to sell our event tickets. It enabled us to keep track of all the sales and generate reports, which was incredibly helpful.
5. What has been your biggest success so far with Silent Beats?
Our biggest success has been our ability to bring together people from different backgrounds and have them connect through the power of music. I originally started Silent Beats as a small side project, but it’s grown to become a thriving business and community.
6. What advice would you give to someone looking to start their own business?
I would say that it’s important to have passion and determination. It’s not always easy to start a business but if you truly believe in what you’re doing, and work hard, then you can make it happen. Also, don’t be afraid to take risks, and don't hesitate to use resources available through companies like Shopify.
7. What's next for Silent Beats?
We’re looking to expand our services and host more events in different cities. It's exciting to see how our business has grown and how much more we can achieve.
Thank you for your time, Lily. Wishing you all the best in your future endeavours!
Thank you for having me. It was a pleasure.
