Interview with Jackson Reynolds, Owner of Silk Painting Studio in Portland, Oregon

Q: When did you first become interested in silk painting, and how did that lead you to open your own studio?

A: I first discovered silk painting in college when I took a textile design class. I fell in love with the process and continued to create silk paintings as a hobby. After working at a dead-end desk job for several years, I realized I needed to pursue my passion and share it with others. That’s when I opened Silk Painting Studio in 2015.

Q: What challenges did you face when starting your own business, and how did you overcome them?

A: The biggest challenge was trying to stand out in a crowded market. There were already a few art supply stores in Portland, and I needed to offer something unique. I also had to learn how to market my business effectively. I overcame these challenges by focusing on the quality of my classes and creating a welcoming community atmosphere. I also started using Shopify for my online store, which helped attract customers beyond Portland.

Q: How has Shopify helped your business grow?

A: Shopify has been a game-changer for my business. It has made it easy to sell my products online and to reach customers all across the United States. The platform’s customizable templates and easy-to-use interface were also a huge help when I was first designing my website. Without Shopify, I don’t think my online store would be as successful as it is today.

Q: What advice do you have for others who want to start their own creative business?

A: Focus on what makes your business unique and don’t be afraid to take risks. Building a brand takes time, so be patient and be consistent in your marketing efforts. Finally, be open to new technologies and platforms like Shopify that can help you reach a wider audience.

Q: What’s next for Silk Painting Studio?

A: I’m looking to expand my line of silk painting supplies and offer more classes and workshops. I also want to continue growing my online store and building relationships with customers all over the United States. With the help of Shopify, I’m confident that Silk Painting Studio will continue to evolve and thrive in the years to come.
