Interview with Isabella Martinez, Owner of The Olive Emporium in Asheville, NC

Q: How did you first get interested in the world of olive oils and vinegars?

Shop Stories interview with the owner of a Specialty Olive Oil Store

Isabella: I have always loved cooking and experimenting with different flavors, so when I discovered the world of specialty olive oils and vinegars, I was immediately intrigued. I started doing some research and was amazed by the variety of flavors and health benefits that these products offered. That's when I decided to open my own store dedicated to high-quality olive oils and vinegars.

Q: What were some of the biggest challenges you faced when starting The Olive Emporium?

Isabella: One of the biggest challenges was finding the right suppliers for my products. I wanted to make sure that everything I sold was of the highest quality and sourced ethically. It took a lot of research and networking to find the right partners, but it was worth it in the end.

Q: Can you tell us about a particularly memorable experience you've had with a customer at your store?

Isabella: One of my favorite memories was when a couple came in for a tasting and ended up staying for over an hour chatting with me about their travels and culinary adventures. They were so excited to try all of our different flavors and were even more thrilled when they discovered that they could order our products online through our Shopify store.

Q: Speaking of Shopify, can you tell us a little more about how it has helped your business?

Isabella: Shopify has been a game-changer for us. It has made it so much easier for customers to find us online and to place orders. It has also allowed us to expand our customer base beyond just our local community, which has been really exciting.

Q: What has been the most unexpected outcome or success that you've experienced as a business owner?

Isabella: I think the most unexpected success has been the way that The Olive Emporium has become a destination for travelers visiting Asheville. We've had people come in from all over the country (and even the world) who have heard about us online or from friends and family. It's been amazing to see how our little store has become a part of so many people's travel itineraries.

Q: What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about starting their own specialty food store?

Isabella: My advice would be to really do your research and make sure that you're truly passionate about the products that you're selling. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication to run a successful business, so you want to make sure that you're doing something that you love and that you believe in. And of course, take advantage of all of the amazing tools that are available to small business owners, like Shopify!
