Interview with Mia Johnson, Owner of SkyFall Indoor Skydiving Center in Austin, Texas
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got into the indoor skydiving industry?
A: Well, I've always been a thrill-seeker and outdoor adventurer. I've tried bungee jumping, rock climbing, and even skydiving. However, when I realized that not everyone could skydive due to physical disabilities or fear, I thought there had to be a better way. That's when I discovered indoor skydiving and I fell in love. I wanted to bring this unique experience to others in Austin, Texas, and that's how SkyFall Indoor Skydiving Center was born.
Q: What were some of the challenges you faced when starting SkyFall Indoor Skydiving Center?
A: There were many challenges I faced when starting my business. One of the biggest obstacles was figuring out the most suitable location. I wanted a place that would draw in people from all walks of life, but it had to be a place easily accessible to visitors and locals alike. I also had trouble figuring out the legal paperwork and zoning regulations, but with Shopify, I was able to overcome the hurdle of opening a store.
Q: Can you tell us about how Shopify helped you start your business?
A: I'm so glad you mentioned Shopify! I was struggling to set up my online store and connect with a payment processor, but with Shopify's easy-to-use platform, my website was up and running within days. The best part was that it integrates with many different payment processing options, so my customers can choose their preferred method. Additionally, with the Shopify POS, I'm able to process orders in-store, track inventory, and manage staff with ease. Without Shopify, I don't think I would have been able to start SkyFall Indoor Skydiving Center.
Q: What sets SkyFall Indoor Skydiving Center apart from other indoor skydiving businesses?
A: SkyFall Indoor Skydiving Center provides a unique experience that's accessible to everyone. Our wind tunnel is suitable for all ages and fitness levels, and our experienced instructors can teach you to fly like a pro. We also have exclusive merchandise that you won't find anywhere else, and our space-themed design adds an extra touch of excitement to the experience.
Q: Can you tell us about a memorable moment at SkyFall Indoor Skydiving Center?
A: Last year, we had a young girl who was wheelchair-bound visit us. She was so excited to try indoor skydiving, but her parents were worried about the harness not fitting correctly. Our instructors worked together to design a custom harness for her, and she was able to fulfill her dream of flying. It was emotional and incredibly memorable for everyone who witnessed it.
Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their own business in the leisure industry?
A: The most important advice I can give is to have passion for what you're doing. I genuinely believe in the indoor skydiving experience and I'm proud to offer it to the people of Austin. Also, be prepared to face challenges and keep an open mind when it comes to problem-solving. Lastly, surround yourself with a team of knowledgeable and supportive people. It makes all the difference.
Q: What's next for SkyFall Indoor Skydiving Center?
A: We've seen so much success in the past year and we're excited to continue to grow. We're planning on expanding our merchandise line and creating packages for corporate events and parties. We also want to offer advanced flight classes for experienced flyers. We want to show that indoor skydiving is not just a one-time experience but can be a sport as well.
Thank you for the interview, Mia! It was great learning about your journey and all the amazing work you're doing at SkyFall Indoor Skydiving Center in Austin, Texas.
