Interview with Mike Anderson, Owner of Sky High Kites in Seattle, Washington.

Q: When did you first become interested in kites and how did it lead to opening a kite store?

A: I have always been fascinated with kites since I was a child. The beautiful colors and shapes of the kites always captured my imagination. It wasn't until I took my daughter kite flying on a beach trip that I realized how much joy kite flying can bring to people. I started researching more about kites and realized that there was a need for a kite store in Seattle. That's when I decided to open Sky High Kites.

Q: What were some of the challenges you faced in the beginning?

A: The biggest challenge was finding a location that was affordable and accessible. We started out in a small space in a neighborhood with low foot traffic. It was tough getting the word out to people that we existed. Also, the high overhead costs were a constant worry. But we were able to overcome these challenges by using social media and word-of-mouth advertising.

Q: How did Shopify help you grow your business?

A: Shopify has been a game-changer for our business. We started using it to sell our products online and within months, we saw a significant increase in our sales. The website was easy to set up, and the payment and shipping options were seamless. We now have customers from all over the world thanks to Shopify.

Q: What do you enjoy most about running a kite store?

A: I enjoy seeing the smiles on people's faces when they come into the store and see our selection of kites. It's great to be able to help families create memories that will last a lifetime. I also love being able to connect with other kite enthusiasts and share my passion for the art of kite flying.

Q: How has your business evolved over the years?

A: Our business has evolved into more than just a kite store. We now sell wind spinners, outdoor accessories, and other products that are perfect for anyone who loves spending time outdoors. We have also expanded our online presence and social media reach.

Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a small business?

A: My advice would be to do your research and have a clear plan. Surround yourself with people who believe in your vision and are willing to help you achieve your goals. Also, never be afraid to take risks and try new things.

Q: What are your plans for the future of Sky High Kites?

A: We plan to continue growing our online presence and expanding our product offerings. We also want to continue building a strong community of kite enthusiasts in Seattle and beyond. Our ultimate goal is to create a place where people can come to find joy and relaxation through kite flying and outdoor activities.
