Interview with Johnny Alvarez, owner of Sole Hustle Sneakers in Los Angeles, California.
1. So, Johnny, how did you come up with the idea for Sole Hustle Sneakers?
I’ve always been a sneakerhead and I realized there was a gap in the market for customized limited edition sneakers. I wanted to create a store that gave people the opportunity to not only buy high-quality limited edition sneakers, but also to customize them to their liking.
2. What were some of the challenges you faced when starting up your business?
The biggest challenge was competing with the big-name sneaker stores and getting the word out there that we offer something that they don’t. Another challenge was finding the right location. It took a while to find the perfect spot in downtown Los Angeles.
3. How did you overcome those initial challenges?
I focused on building relationships with local influencers and using social media to spread the word about our unique offerings. We also set our store apart by offering in-store customization services, which most stores don’t offer.
4. Tell us about a turning point that helped boost your business.
One major turning point was when we started using Shopify. It helped us streamline our business, making it easier to manage our inventory and orders. We were also able to reach a wider audience by selling online, which was a game changer for us.
5. In what way has Shopify specifically helped your business?
Shopify has allowed us to have a more professional online presence. We’re able to customize our website to fit our brand and it’s given us the ability to process orders and manage inventory more efficiently.
6. Describe a time when you were surprised by your business’ success.
We were always hoping for success but what surprised us was how quickly we were able to establish a loyal customer base. Word of mouth and social media helped us reach more and more people. It’s been a wild ride.
7. What is your personal favorite sneaker that you sell in store?
It’s hard to pick just one, but I have to say the Jordan 1 Retro High Off-White University Blue has to be my favorite. The blue and white colorway is so classic and the Off-White detailing makes it truly unique.
Thanks for taking the time to speak with us, Johnny. Your story is truly inspiring. Good luck with everything in the future.
Thank you. It’s been a pleasure.
