Interview with Vanessa Sanchez, Owner of Sanchez's Convenience Store in Los Angeles, California

Shop Stories interview with the owner of a Convenience store

Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started in the convenience store business.

A: My name is Vanessa Sanchez and I've been a small business owner for over 15 years. I started my first convenience store in Los Angeles in 2005 after realizing that there was a need for a convenient store in the neighborhood. I wanted to provide the local community with easy access to everyday essentials at an affordable price.

Q: What were some of the biggest challenges you faced starting your own business?

A: The biggest challenge I faced was financing. As a Latina woman, it was difficult to secure a loan from traditional lenders. However, as luck would have it, I stumbled upon Shopify, an e-commerce platform that allowed me to start my business online with minimal upfront costs.

Q: How has Shopify helped you grow your business?

A: Shopify has been instrumental in the growth of my business. The platform allowed me to reach customers outside of my local community by expanding my business online. Shopify's user-friendly interface also allows me to manage my inventory, track my sales, and create marketing campaigns all in one place.

Q: What sets your store apart from other convenience stores in the area?

A: We are a small mom and pop shop that truly cares about our customers. We go the extra mile to make sure our customers feel welcomed and appreciated. We also offer a unique selection of items that you won't find in big-box stores.

Q: How has your business been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic?

A: At first, the pandemic was devastating for my business. However, I quickly adapted to the new normal and expanded my online presence through Shopify. This allowed me to continue to serve my customers even when they were unable to physically visit my store.

Q: What is one piece of advice you would give to someone looking to start their own business?

A: My advice would be to never give up. Starting a business is hard work and success doesn't happen overnight. Stay committed to your vision and keep pushing through the challenges.

Q: What's next for Sanchez's Convenience Store?

A: I'm excited to continue to grow my online presence through Shopify and offer even more unique items to my customers. I also hope to expand my business by opening additional locations in the future.

Thank you, Vanessa, for taking the time to share your journey and experience with us. It's inspiring to see a small business thrive and make a difference in the community.
