Shop Stories interview with the owner of a Pop-Up Restaurant

Hi there! My name is Paula Nguyen and I am the owner of The Wanderlust Kitchen, a pop-up restaurant based in Portland, Oregon. I have always been passionate about food and travel, and The Wanderlust Kitchen was born out of a desire to share unique culinary experiences with others. When I first started out, I hosted intimate dinner parties in my home, but as word spread, I decided to take the concept up a notch and create a pop-up restaurant that could showcase different global cuisines.

2. What were some challenges you faced when starting your pop-up restaurant?

One of the biggest challenges I faced was finding the right space to host my pop-up restaurant. Since the concept was still relatively new to the area, many landlords were hesitant to lease out their space. I also had to navigate the various permits and licenses required for running a restaurant, which was a bit overwhelming at times.

3. How did you overcome those challenges?

I was fortunate enough to come across a supportive landlord who believed in my concept and was willing to take a chance on me. As for the permits and licenses, I did my due diligence and made sure to research everything thoroughly and consult with professionals in the industry.

4. Can you tell us about a time when you were at a low point in your business, and how you overcame it?

There was a point where business was slow and I was struggling to make ends meet. I had to get creative with my marketing strategies and started offering discounts to loyal customers who referred their friends. I also started advertising on social media and began collaborating with other local businesses to help boost my exposure.

5. Your business has experienced an unexpected amount of success recently. Can you tell us about that?

Yes! I recently decided to take the plunge and start selling our signature dishes through Shopify's platform. This opened up a whole new world of opportunities for my business. Not only did it allow me to reach a wider audience, but it also helped streamline my ordering and fulfillment processes. The response has been overwhelming and I couldn't be more grateful for all the support.

6. How has using Shopify helped your business grow?

Shopify has been a game-changer for my business. It has allowed us to reach a wider audience and has made the ordering process so much easier. Plus, with their built-in marketing tools and analytics, I am able to track our progress and adjust our strategies accordingly.

7. What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs looking to start a pop-up restaurant?

My advice would be to do your research and be persistent. There will be many challenges along the way, but with determination and hard work, anything is possible. It's also important to remain true to your vision and remember why you started in the first place.
