Interview with Evan Reynolds, Owner of Reynolds Tailors in Austin, Texas.
1. How did you get into the tailoring business, Evan?
It's actually a funny story. Growing up, I always hated shopping for clothes because nothing ever fit me the way I wanted. I was constantly taking my clothes to the tailor to get them altered. Eventually, I realized that I could learn to do it myself and make a career out of it. So, after studying tailoring for a few years, I decided to open up my own shop here in Austin.
2. What were some of the biggest challenges you faced when you first opened Reynolds Tailors?
The biggest challenge was definitely getting the word out about my business. I was just starting out, and it was tough to compete with the bigger tailoring chains in the area. Plus, I didn't have much marketing experience, so I wasn't sure how to get the attention of potential customers.
3. How did you eventually overcome those challenges?
I knew I needed to find a way to stand out from the competition, so I decided to offer custom garments in addition to our alteration services. This gave me an edge over the bigger chains, who didn't offer that level of customization. I also made sure to stay active on social media and to network with other local businesses to get the word out.
4. What led you to use Shopify for your business?
I had heard great things about Shopify from other small business owners in the area. After doing my research, I realized that it would be the perfect platform for us to use. It's intuitive, easy to use, and has all the features we need to run our online store.
5. Can you walk us through how Shopify has helped your business grow?
Definitely. Once we launched our online store through Shopify, we saw a huge increase in sales. Customers loved being able to shop our products from the comfort of their own homes. Plus, the platform makes it easy for us to track inventory, manage sales, and keep in touch with our customers through email marketing and social media.
6. What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the tailoring business?
My advice would be to find a way to stand out from the competition. Offer something unique, whether it's custom garments or a particular type of alteration that you specialize in. And don't forget to stay active on social media and to network with other local businesses.
7. What's next for Reynolds Tailors?
We're focused on continuing to grow our online presence through Shopify and to expand our custom garment offerings. We're also looking into incorporating more sustainable and eco-friendly practices into our business. Stay tuned!
Thank you for taking the time to chat with me, Evan!
