Shop Stories interview with the owner of a Health food store

Today’s interview is with Sarah Peters, the owner of Perfectly Natural, a health food store located in the heart of Portland, Oregon. Sarah started her business in 2015 and has since then strongly established herself in the market. She credits her success to her strong belief in natural products and her commitment to providing her customers with the highest quality products possible.

1. What inspired you to open your store?

Sarah: Becoming a mother was a turning point in my life. I started paying closer attention to the food I was putting in my body and those of my family. As I became more aware of the benefits of natural and organic food, I realized that the options available were limited. That is when I decided to open Perfectly Natural.

2. What were some of the early challenges you faced?

Sarah: The biggest challenge was finding suppliers who shared my vision for high-quality natural products, and who were willing to work with a new and unknown business. I also had to navigate the legal aspects of starting a business, a daunting task for a first-time entrepreneur.

3. How did you overcome these challenges?

Sarah: I attended trade shows to meet suppliers face-to-face and to build relationships. It was important for me to be transparent about my business goals and to ensure that all my suppliers were aligned with my values. I also relied on Shopify to handle my online business needs, which made my life much easier, as it allowed me to manage my inventory and sales from one central platform.

4. How long did it take for your business to take off?

Sarah: It took a few months for the word to spread, but once it did, my business took off quickly. I attribute this success to my focus on customer service and the quality of my products.

5. What has been the most rewarding aspect of running your business?

Sarah: The most rewarding aspect of running my store has been seeing the positive impact that natural and organic products have on my customers. It's very satisfying to know that I'm helping people make healthier choices and improve their lives.

6. What advice would you give to someone who wants to start a business in the health food industry?

Sarah: My advice would be to really understand your customers and their needs. Also, take advantage of technology and use tools such as Shopify to streamline and grow your business.

7. What are your future plans for Perfectly Natural?

Sarah: I plan to further expand my online presence and to continue introducing new and innovative products to my customers. I’m also planning to open another physical store in a nearby city to reach even more people who are looking for natural and organic products.

It was invigorating to talk with Sarah and hear about how her passion led her to create a thriving business that is making a significant impact on the community. As Sarah continues to carve her path forward, she remains steadfast in her dedication to providing her customers with the highest quality natural and organic products available.
